Story Time: A Family Tradition Rooted in Love for Books

Books have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child, I loved carving out quiet pockets of time just for myself, curled up with a book, a warm cup of tea, and the comforting feeling of being completely absorbed in a story. Even now, reading remains one of my most cherished forms of me time.

Introducing Books to My Children

When our daughter was little, I naturally began introducing her to books at her own pace. Her earliest interactions were exactly what you would expect: torn pages, chewed corners, and books doubling as toys rather than stories.

Slowly, something shifted. She began bringing books to me, placing them in my hands, and asking me to read to her. Watching her form her own relationship with books brought me immense joy.

I never forced this hobby. I strongly believe in child-led play and giving children the space to discover their own interests. Still, it warmed my heart to see her gravitate toward something that has meant so much to me.

Making Story Time a Family Ritual

By the time she turned two, story time became part of our nightly rhythm. Each evening, either my husband or I would read to her before turning off the lights.

As our family grew into four, bedtime became even more tradition-filled. We get the kids ready together, and once they are settled, I read them a story, always one they have chosen themselves.

Over time, our collection of books has grown into something truly special. These stories are familiar, well-loved, and woven into the fabric of our days.

We simply call this tradition story time, and it has become one of the most meaningful ways for us to slow down, reconnect, and end the day together.
